The Complete Nintendo Amiibo Range

What is an Amiibo?

Amiibo are a cool cross-over between collectible items (they started out as just plastic figures but now also include plushies as well as amiibo cards), and playable features on selected Nintendo games. What these do is that you just need to tap your Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo 3DS, WiiU or Nintendo Switch controller and then they add new features to certain games. One Amiibo may be compatible with more than one game but are not necessarily compatible with every game. Some of the features you can unlock with these are:

  • New in game characters
  • Bonus and special items
  • Ability to level up in game characters
  • New in game adventures and levels

How many different types of Amiibo are there?

At the moment there are 3 main types of Amiibo items, which are shown below. As you can see the plastic figures are by far the most common type of item and are also the most collectible. However there are also portable cards and the Yoshi’s World plush figures. The numbers below include released figures as well as confirmed and announced upcoming figures as long as they have been officially announced by Nintendo.

I'm a collector of pop culture items, with by far my biggest collection being in excess of 1,200 DVDs (yeah I still stay old school - can't wrap my head around the whole streaming thing yet), as well as various figures and Memorabilia (with most of these being McFarlane Walking Dead 5 inch figures, Funko Pop and Funko Pint Size Heroes, with a few other exceptions too). I'm a massive nerd and giant child at heart so feel free to have a chat about anything toy and movie related. My biggest movie passions are horror by far (especially slasher and zombie), sci fi and to a lesser extent action and comedy.
