If you’re like me, you’re probably looking forward to con season and whilst some other cons were cancelled, as it stands at the moment MCM in Birmingham and London are going ahead this year, and they have just announced a few health and safety rules as well as their first guest for Birmingham, which will be Hayden Christensen on 13th and 14th November with Photo Ops and Autographs.
This actually brings us on to the first of the health and safety announcements which is that they will be doing photo ops with some celebs but there will be a perspex screen between you and them. Totally understandable but what do you think about this? How will it impact your thoughts on paying for a photo op if it looks like this (all photos from the MCM Twitter page):
On to the next lot of health and safety announcements:
Visitors will need to bring one of the following with them:
- Proof of a full course of vaccinations
- Proof of a negative COVID test within 48 hours with a lateral flow being accepted. You can record these results in the NHS app
- Proof of natural immunity shown by a positive PCR test lasting for 180 days after the the positive test and self isolation period. This is probably the most vague one and they do recommend that you check with the NHS website for guidance as they of course can only work within the guidance which they are given.
Along with this they are also working on a reduced capacity, strongly encourage the wearing of masks, which may be enforced and required in some areas as well as enhanced cleaning throughout the con.
It is unclear what the rules will be for children, but they are once again working with the guidance which they are given, which I believe at the moment exempts young children as some are not eligible for even getting the vaccinations and are not recommended for the lateral flow test.
The best thing to do is to keep an eye on the MCM website which has a whole page dedicated to trying to explain what are complex rules and / or guidance (some times it can be hard to tell the difference talking from experience in the attraction industry) placed upon them by the government.
Let’s all try and have a fun and safe con shall we!
