Nerd News: Funko Getting in to the Digital & NFT Market with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Wax Digital

So, Funko have finally done it. I’ve been talking a lot lately about how many new product lines Funko is getting in to and that it’s getting hard to keep up, but this takes the brand in to a whole new direction and its a direction which personally I always dread seeing for collectibles companies. Super Plastic already offer NFTs and now Funko is doing the same. They are available through the wax digital website from 3rd August.

It looks like series 1 of their digital pop range is based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and is more of a mashup between trading card and digital product rather than Funko pop as you can purchase either standard (5 digital pops for $9.99) or premium packs (17 digital pops for $29.99) of digital collectibles, with a chance to get an NFT which of course as a unique item will be more valuable.

At first glance I really don’t like the look of this but will have to look at maybe getting a pack to make up my mind properly. One cool thing is that there are chances to get actual pops by collecting the whole series and getting tokens or exchanging some of the NFTs for physical pops. Those physical pops however are amongst the nicest pops I have ever seen them do!

I'm a collector of pop culture items, with by far my biggest collection being in excess of 1,200 DVDs (yeah I still stay old school - can't wrap my head around the whole streaming thing yet), as well as various figures and Memorabilia (with most of these being McFarlane Walking Dead 5 inch figures, Funko Pop and Funko Pint Size Heroes, with a few other exceptions too). I'm a massive nerd and giant child at heart so feel free to have a chat about anything toy and movie related. My biggest movie passions are horror by far (especially slasher and zombie), sci fi and to a lesser extent action and comedy.
