I wasn’t expecting too much for day 1, more looking forward to an introduction about what their plans are for 2021 and giving us something to look forward to over the next 8 days following this one. When it comes to Star Wars announcements I thought that these might come on the Disney day, but thinking about it and seeing a Marvel day – I should have known better! They started day 1 off with a bang… A MASSIVE Star Wars themed bang!
How many new Star Wars products do you want to digest this year? There’s enough here to keep you well fed, and you know there’s some baby yodas!
To start with there are a big bunch of pocket pop keychains from both the movies and the Mandalorian series! We’ve got The Mandalorian and the child, both with various versions, IG-11, Moff Gideon, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Yoda, R2-D2, C-3PO, Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper (my favourite one of the set… other than maybe R2) and Boba Fett.
These are going to be $5 on the Funko shop.
Staying on the theme of small things and the Mandalorian… and I’m not just talking about Baby Yoda, although you know he features again… 6 times! Seriously Funko you need to ease up on those things! There is a new Mandalorian mystery minis series of 12 common figures and 3 specialty series figures:
Of course there are some pops too and I’ll start with the Rise of Skywalker ones where we have Ben Solo, Rey (with a yellow light saber and with 2 blue ones) and Palpatine, with all of these actually looking awesome! They’re joined by a 10″ Babu Frik… Be warned though the pre-sale of Ben Solo and Palpatine (which both really are amazing figures) are already sold out!
Then I guess we need to address the Elephant in the room and talk about a set which we have known about for a while as they have been on pre-order in various places… The Star Wars Valentines series. I really hope that these are a huge flop so that we don’t see more series of these! I love the DC pink figures we saw last year – I have the whole set in fact, but those were charity ones and as such had a purpose. Who wants to see a pink Stormtrooper or Darth Vader holding a heart shaped box of chocolates? They’re also joined by the same rediculous versions of Chewie, Yoda and R2-D2. I hate these figures!
Finally there’s a really nice looking Luke Skywalker on Hoth combo with a pop pin! They’ve done a nice job with this Amazon exclusive.
Finally on the topic of pop pins they’ve got a new Star Wars range of these and I love them, especially Han Solo in carbonite! He is joined by Jabba the hutt (including a chase version), Boushh Leia and Lando Calrissian. These are available from Box Lunch and Hot Topic.
