Nerd News: Wrap up Some Fun with Funko Christmas Announcements

If you ask me, it’s a little bit early for Christmas announcements, but then again as they had Funkoween in May, I guess the timing makes about sense… It just feels a bit strange to already be looking to pre-order Christmas season Funko pops and advent calendars etc in July!

Just so that I can get them out of the way as they don’t interest me at all, they’re bringing out a few new games. The first of which is now a familiar format in the form of a Funkoverse game based on a Nightmare Before Christmas – you’ll see this franchise a fair bit in this edition of Nerd News!

On top of that however they have also announced another Nightmare Before Christmas game which is a card game, which also comes with a cute little Jack Skellington, and then another card game called A Christmas Story: A Major Card Game. This is one which really doesn’t have any appeal to me, but it’s interesting to see them try to expand their gaming range.

With those games out of the way, they’ve also announced their advent calendar for this year… Maybe they’ll announce another one and have 2 on the go again, but so far we just have a Nightmare Before Christmas one. The one last year for Marvel was really cool but I wasn’t going to get another one due to the size of my collection, but I might have to get one of these!

The size of the figures in these is always awesome. They call them pocket pops, but they’re not like the key ring ones. They are a similar size but much more chunky – I always think the key rings feel cheap compared to these.

We can round the Nightmare Before Christmas ones up here, because they have essentially just re-announced the mystery minis and funko pops which they had already announced for Funkoween in May. There are a lot to get through so I’ll just show them off below!

So far there are a lot of Nightmare Before Christmas products although they should be announcing more over the next 2 days. If Nightmare Before Christmas isn’t your thing they do have a couple of other franchises which have already been announced for you to sink your Christmas teeth in to!

Firstly from Disney we have 2 Pooh Bears, both of them diamond editions with one being a pocket pop and the other being a full pop figure, and I have to say they actually look pretty good… There’s something pretty classy about them – I can see these selling well. Then you’ve also got a Hot Topic exclusive Stitch dressed as Santa with a little stuffed toy.

Finally for now there is a set of Peppermint Lane figures, with what looks to be 2 pops and then a third pop which presumably comes with the house, which lights up by the way!

I'm a collector of pop culture items, with by far my biggest collection being in excess of 1,200 DVDs (yeah I still stay old school - can't wrap my head around the whole streaming thing yet), as well as various figures and Memorabilia (with most of these being McFarlane Walking Dead 5 inch figures, Funko Pop and Funko Pint Size Heroes, with a few other exceptions too). I'm a massive nerd and giant child at heart so feel free to have a chat about anything toy and movie related. My biggest movie passions are horror by far (especially slasher and zombie), sci fi and to a lesser extent action and comedy.
