Nerd News: Secret Sofa for this Week is William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet

This week on Friday 15th May at 20:00 it’s time for secret sofa with secret cinema for the 5th time, and once again it’s a film which I really can’t get very excited about. When I first heard about this concept I was so in to it, and whilst I get the choices and why they have been made, there has been nothing from the secret cinema roster which has interested me at all.

This week we have William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet by Baz Luhrmann and it follows in the wake of Groundhog Day, the Grand Budapest Hotel, Casino Royale and Moulin Rouge. All very popular and artsy movies, which is I think what most of the secret cinema is drawn to… But I want to see them bring one of their grittier projects in to your home!

I know that the logistics of doing something on a small scale for Star Wars or Aliens will be very tricky to do in an effective way… But 28 days later? Let’s bring the zombie apocalypse home!

That is genuinely the movie I’m waiting for.

If Romeo & Juliet floats your boat head over to Secret Sofa and sign up to the mailing list to get all the details!

As always they’ve chosen their Haagen Dazs to round out the evening but as a movie of 2 sides they have this week recommended not one but two tubs! Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Drizzle Gelato and Häagen-Dazs Caramel Swirl Gelato!

As has become customary the last few weeks as well there will be a pre-event on a Facebook group and there are tickets available for an after party which is going to be hosted on Zoom… They really do know how to get you all involved and really bring the Secret Cinema experience in to your homes!

If you need a bit of reminding about the film check out the trailer below:

I'm a collector of pop culture items, with by far my biggest collection being in excess of 1,200 DVDs (yeah I still stay old school - can't wrap my head around the whole streaming thing yet), as well as various figures and Memorabilia (with most of these being McFarlane Walking Dead 5 inch figures, Funko Pop and Funko Pint Size Heroes, with a few other exceptions too). I'm a massive nerd and giant child at heart so feel free to have a chat about anything toy and movie related. My biggest movie passions are horror by far (especially slasher and zombie), sci fi and to a lesser extent action and comedy.
