Nerd News: This Weeks Secret Sofa Event is Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge

If you haven’t heard yet, Secret Cinema are trying to keep everyone busy and sane at the moment by running pseudo secret cinema events which you can run for yourself and by yourself in your very own home. Transforming your own living room in to a part of the movie watching experience. I love the idea but sadly haven’t found the right film for me to get involved with yet! They’ve already had the Grand Budapest Hotel and Groundhog Day, and the next one is still not quite right for me!

This Friday (1st May) they’re playing homage to what I know has in the past been one of the most successful Secret Cinema events to date – Moulin Rouge.

I can see how it can work as a semi live event, and I can see how it can be an exciting way to transform your home as well! So if you want to get involved, go and sign up for the Secret Sofa mailing list now so that you get the full details of what they want you to do to get involved!

I will give away that they will be watching the film at 20:00 and that there are social online events being held both before and after to get you in the mood and then keep the social distancing approved party going in to the night! The after party event is a ticketed event and sounds like it will be amazing, so get over there before it sells out!

To get involved (you can choose as much or as little as you like), but for me I’m tempted to take part (although I do known that this really isn’t my film) for just the strawberries and cream Haagen-Dazs and absinthe… That genuinely sounds like a delicious combination!

This is a video from their site to showcase their live event for this film… I must admit that it looked incredible!

In the mean time I’m going to keep holding on and waiting to see if they do Star Wars, Aliens, Stranger Things, the Shawshank Redemption or 28 Days Later. So far 2 out of the 3 events they have announced have been ones I recognise from their previous events (I’m not sure if they did a live event for Groundhog Day).
