All of Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann’s Marching Cadences / Chants from Full Metal Jacket

Full Metal Jacket is a cinematic masterpiece, and I would say my favourite of Stanley Kubrick’s movies. It’s gritty and raw, with one of the most raw characters being Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann who puts the recruits through their paces and has them echoing chants as they march. During these cadences Hartmann generally blurts out a line which his recruits duly repeat in the same style and rhythm. Below is the collection of these cadences along with a YouTube video showing them in action.

Mama and Papa were laying in bed…
Mama rolled over this is what she said.

Got the blueballs, crabs and the seven-year-itch!

[Hartman only] This is my rifle. This is my gun.
[Recurits only] This is for fighting. This is for fun.
